Intense narrative. Very readable. If you want to re-enter the 1970s and the hippy expat decade of personal freedom, this novel is for you. Set largely on the Spanish island of Ibiza, Culver introduces his readers to strongly drawn characters whose dropout milieu presents them with the contradictions of personal freedom. So much hash is smoked the reader can end up feeling a little stoned. The protagonist is looking for love but has to settle for lots of sex. A good read.

Ibiza Blues is an entertaining, well-written glimpse into the adventures of a 1970’s era seeker. Unwilling to join the rat-race, reluctant to make long-term commitments, and short on cash, he travels across Europe in search of meaning . . . and self-understanding.

Ibiza Blues takes me on a wonderful journey back to my childhood on Ibiza. With the always valid message that it’s worth being brave, and letting life carry you. Even if you don’t have a penny left in your pocket, you will be rewarded with the gifts of life-Love, laughter, and Adventure!

This scintillating tale is about a young man coming of age during the hippie generation. He has the courage to take life as it comes as he encounters social and sexual adventures most of us only dream of. He is carefree yet deeply thoughtful and always caring along his journey.

Kudos for Ibiza Blues! Refreshingly honest and raw and a compelling read into why we must go our own way, take the risks and suffer the consequences. This is wonderfully written and quite an enjoyable ride.

A sophisticated “coming of age” novel set in the 70’s. Filled with exploration, adventure, and travel, it is well peopled with the storyteller’s fellow hippies-some more eccentric than others-as they seek out a different and more meaningful way of being. It is a fascinating story about the process of figuring out who one is. Ibiza Blues is a great read!

Ibiza Blues is a wonderful book. Beautifully written. Luxuriously drawn characters, hipster atmosphere, relentless spirit of adventure. I enjoyed it-a lot!

A wonderful hedonistic journey of youth. The protagonist Jake is a shoestring traveler escaping from the predictable boredom of working life in America, into a drug and sex fueled life on the beach and on the slopes. Jake is continually exploring his inner need for spiritual answers and for someone to replace his mother who he lost at a very early age. The character is remarkably forthcoming about his own failings and young fears. In his quest for a most basic survival without legal work, he runs into some very sketchy illegalities and is forced to challenge his own moral sensibilities. Luck, good friends, music and love pull him out of trouble more than once on this epic journey that you cannot put down. Take a thrilling ride with Jake in The Tank, his ancient rotted jalopy on the small bohemian island of Ibiza, and see the world from his youthful eyes. You will not be disappointed.

Ibiza Blues was an entertaining read from start to finish, throughout all of the protagonist’s wild and unpredictable adventures. It’s a wonderful story of getting lost while searching for oneself, in a special time and place like no other. The author beautifully conveys the various characters and their unique lifestyles in an engrossing way that really pulls in the reader. If you’re sensitive about drugs or sex, then this book is not for you. For me though, the raw and uncensored descriptions are part of what made the book so captivating.
